THE BRIEF
We’ve been on a great journey with Katie, owner of Malarkey Cakes.
This has included:
- A re-brand
- SEO strategy
- Facebook Ads integration
- Sales Landing Pages
- An online school hosting courses both related to cake making and to aspects of running a small business.
Along with many chats about a wide range of techniques to grow a business online.
Katie is fabulous because she is a real live example of how to turn a passion hobby into a successful business.
This all started when Katie approached me with a homemade SquareSpace website that looked nice enough, but had two main problems.
The first was that although SquareSpace had allowed Katie to put a functioning website together, it didn’t let her achieve just the look and feel she wanted. Something that reflected her personality and the amazing cakes that she creates.
The second, and somewhat larger issue, was that very few people were visiting the site!
How we helped
Our first step was to re-build the website in WordPress. WordPress is the most popular website build tool, with somewhere in the region of 40% of all sites being built with it.
This allowed us to integrate best of breed solutions for various marketing initiatives and to give Katie much finer control over the design of her site.
The next step was to build an SEO strategy to drive visitors to her website.
In conjunction with that were techniques to convert visitors into subscribers so that Katie could directly send information, help and offers to interested people.
Next Facebook and Instagram were integrated with the site and Katie focused on building her social media following.
Results so far
Following a lot of hard work, Katie has moved Malarkey Cakes from a side project to full time employment and taking on other people.
Over half of her enquiries now come from Google search results (all as a result of SEO, no Google Ad spend undertaken).
She is launching her own online school, teaching both cake related and business growth related skills.
